Top 8 Tweakments

Top 8 Tweakments

Elevens & Lip flips & Masseters & Marionettes.

Ever heard of them? While the term ‘tweakment’ (a hybrid of “tweak” and “treatment”) is relatively new in the beauty industry lexicon, these non-surgical procedures are de rigueur, and the foundation for the 5-minute face (smoothed lines and even texture equals less makeup and less effort on the daily!)

New, cutting edge, hyper-targeted tweakments are making facial injections more nuanced and naturallooking. Less dramatic than a facelift or other invasive procedures, tweakments are intended to enhance facial features for subtle rejuvenation rather than total renovation. While there are over a dozen tweakments that are regularly requested at medispas, dermatologists offices and plastic surgery centers, we’ve identified the top 8 tweakments that are considered most common.

Horizon Lines

Surprise! These little lines form across the forehead due to repetitive facial expressions of opening your eyes widely and lifting the forehead.  Horizon lines are most often treated with botulinum toxin injections which relax the muscles and smooth the appearance of the skin. There will be a slight paralysis of these muscles, making it more difficult or impossible to feign surprise.

Common side effects may include temporary pain and lumps at the injection site, and bruising.

    Eyebrow Lift

An eyebrow lift tweakment involves injecting botulinum toxin into the area around the eyebrows to semi-permanently lift the brow, making the eyes appear bigger, brighter and more youthful.

Common side effects may include bruising, headache, or temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid.

      11 Lines

Frown, and you’ll likely discover your 11 lines, those pesky vertical lines between the eyebrows, often deepening as we age. Botulinum toxin is the standard tweakment, which relaxes the corrugator and procerus muscles to smooth these lines. For deep and persistent 11 lines that are visible even when your face is relaxed, dermal filler may be used.

Common side effects are similar to other similar treatments, including temporary skin irritation and bruising.

        Crow's Feet

Smile, and you’ll likely spot your crow's feet, the fine lines that spread out from the corners of the eyes like little rays of light. While we would never suggest that you should smile less, if these lines trouble you, they can be tweaked with botulinum toxin, which helps relax the muscles  and soften the lines around the eyes.

Common side effects may include temporary bruising and swelling at the injection site.

          Marionette Lines

A common sign of skin aging that signals a sad appearance are marionette lines, the vertical wrinkles that run downward from the corners of the mouth to the sides of the chin. They are caused by the constant opening and closing of the mouth, and are typically treated with dermal fillers, which add volume and stimulate collagen production.

Common side effects can include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites.

          Laugh Lines

Laugh lines, or nasolabial folds, are the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. These are often treated with hyaluronic acid fillers to add volume and smooth out these lines.

Common side effects can include redness, swelling, pain, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site.

            Masseteers

Masseter Botox is a tweakment that targets the masseter muscles, the large muscles on either side of the jaw that can cause a square or wide jaw appearance. By relaxing these muscles, botulinum toxin can provide a more oval or heart-shaped face.

Common side effects may include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.

              Lip Flips

A lip flip is a procedure where botulinum toxin is injected into the orbicularis oris muscle around the lips to relax the muscle, causing the lip to roll slightly upward and outward to create the illusion of a fuller lip.

Common side effects may include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.

As you can see, tweakments may be targeted to a very small surface area and help you achieve subtle enhancements, but so far, no one has figured out how to inject without the immediate aftermath of red, hot, swollen and tender skin.
